Lately there seems to be no shortage of acts popping up in the Enigma/Delerium/Deep Forest vein. Recently I came across a new band out of Paris, France by the name of Lost Memories claiming to exist in that realm with their first release, The Edge of Eternity.
 
"Prologue" effectively sets the mood for the rather sexy experience you are about to embark on. Drifting synthesizers, ethereal vocals drenched in reverb somehow warn you of what is to come.
 
All of the tracks contain vocals. On most of them, the lyrics are rather difficult to understand but I must warn you that some of them they may be offensive to some people. "A Nymph's Dream" in particular is filled with rather strong, metaphorical sexual references. "On a Dark Summer Night's" lyrics are... is it getting warm in here or is it just me?
 
The production quality, swirling synth textures, up-tempo dance beats and beautiful vocals make The Edge of Eternity a disc I can only describe as intoxicating. Lyrics aside, "On a Dark Summer Night" is my favorite cut and "A Nymph's Dream" runs a close second
 
The title cut, "The Edge of Eternity" was one of the clips I heard online that intrigued me. Beginning with a male choir and morphing into a slow melancholic state, you'd never imagine that within seconds you'd have an irresistible urge to get up and dance. I wouldn't be surprised if this and "The Ecstasy of Pain" start making the play lists in dance clubs.
 
Though "Heaven's Gift" is a lovely ethereal piece, it is also my biggest gripe with the disc. Each verse leads your mind to believe that it will be satisfied by a soaring chorus but every time, the piece just moves on to the next verse and leaves you hanging. It's aggravating and it makes the song sound unfinished.
 
All in all, I highly recommend The Edge of Eternity. If you liked the sexiness of Enigma's MCMXC a.D., you'll find that here albeit in a slightly different form. Musically, the best comparison I can think of is to Delerium's Karma. If you loved that, you almost can't lose with this.
